About Waves

Vordingborg and the surrounding area will become a living stage and streets, squares, meadows, schoolyards and theatre halls will become meeting places for art, people and new perspectives. In a wave of innovative performing arts that over 20,000 children, young people and adults will encounter, the festival merges the local and international in a vibrant flow of performing arts impulses.

What makes WAVES special is not just the experiences with world-class international and local performing arts, the unexpected spaces or the powerful visual universes. It's the fundamental artistic and human ambition of performing arts that challenges norms, shakes up the obvious and creates new images of what performing arts can be and who they are for.

WAVES is a cultural beacon, an event that brings together locals, performers, industry professionals and visitors from near and far. And with the school programme SKVULP! where international companies play at 17 schools in the region, and WAVES XTRA, a 5-day industry programme for the performing arts community, the festival embraces both future generations and performing artists from all over Denmark.

In 2025, a fresh team of curators will breathe new life into the festival. Because the world is evolving, and WAVES must evolve with it. So even though WAVES is Denmark's oldest international performing arts festival, the programme will challenge and break with familiar performing arts genres and reflect contemporary issues, because we believe that audiences of today and tomorrow want diversity and original and challenging performing arts of high artistic quality.

The programme will consist of international productions premiering in Denmark, world premieres by Danish companies with international outlook and experience - all performances of high quality and innovative profile.

The curators of WAVES 2025 are Gitte Nielsen, Maria Westh Hage, Kristján Ingimarsson and Paolo Nani

WAVES Festival is organised by Egnsteatret in Vordingborg Kuommune.
