Citizens / co-production with Hangar People & KIC
How do we see each other in society? Who are we when we are not working, performing or producing? In a world where people are measured in efficiency and value is measured in dollars and cents, nine citizens do the most radical thing: They do nothing. They are just being themselves.
CITIZENS is a living art exhibition by Hangar People and Kristján Ingimarsson Company, where nine citizens - each with their own background - are exhibited in the centre of the city space. Here, people themselves become the artwork. The audience is invited to observe, reflect and interact and to see, be curious, mirror themselves, and perhaps realise their own role in society anew.
The exhibition challenges our ideas about identity and being a citizen in the society we live in, questioning what a human being is worth - and whether simply existing can be work in itself. A quiet but powerful commentary on our times.
CITIZENS is a co-production between Hangar People/Kristján Ingimarsson Company and Egnsteatret and is supported by the Danish Arts Foundation. CITIZENS had its world premiere at WAVES Festival 2025.
About the company
Hangar People is an artistic platform under Kristján Ingimarsson Company that shifts the boundaries between theatre, installation and game structure. They create intense, enigmatic and boundary-pushing works - immersive performances, Plexiglas installations and 360° video experiences - where the audience not only watches but enters directly into the centre of the action. Hangar People collaborates with a broad spectrum of international artists and works cross-aesthetically, site-specifically and experimentally - always with a focus on creating new ways of experiencing art and reality.
